Description

“The Adventures of Sindbad the Seafarer” is a weird, wonderful and completely original version of the Arabian tale by Polish Jewish poet Bolesław Leśmian (1877-1937) – recently called “the greatest Polish poet ever”. It was first published in Warsaw in 1913. It tells the story of Sindbad’s seven adventures, in each of which he meets alarming monsters, bewitching princesses and bizarre situations. Unlike in the original, Sindbad is spurred into travel not by a desire to seek his fortune, but by a villainous fish, the Sea Devil. At home he lives with Uncle Tarabuk, an aspiring and dreadful poet, whom Sindbad secretly enjoys escaping. This book is the first English translation of Leśmian’s work, with illustrations. It will appeal to children and adults alike, as it’s a book to read, to be read to and supported by a narrative in pictures.
